Swallowing Stones Book Review

by Mason West

Swallowing Stones, by Joyce McDonald, Is a book about two high school students, Michael and Jenna. On Michael’s 17th birthday he got a gun from his grandpa, later that day Michael and his friend Joe go into the woods and fired off the gun into the air. On that same day Jenna’s father was fixing the roof, Jenna went to tell her dad that lunch was ready when he was brutally killed by that very same bullet fired off by Michael. Swallowing stones is a story about the life of Michael and Jenna. Michael is always trying to keep his life normal but is controlled by guilt. Jenna is constantly searching for the killer of her father and struggles as she goes through many stages of grieving. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries or just a good story.

The Best Day Ever

That night was never ending. It took way too long for the darkness to turn to day, but when it did the realness hit me. My vacation had started, finally after all those countless hours of school, it started. On the road was not as amazing as I thought it would be, but we got to see some awesome things on the road like the Mississippi river.
In Florida we stayed in a huge condo. I didn’t want to leave our room at first, but the hot sand and the crashing waves were too good to stay indoors.
At the beach me and my brother boogie boarded and skim boarded. The waves were huge so we went along way when the waves came in. afterwards we went to eat at a seafood restaurant that was absolutely amazing.
The next day was even better, we all went to the beach when we woke up and played until about noon. after that we went to the condo, cleaned up, then went to the huge outlet to school shop for the rest of the day.
Are last day we stayed on the beach as long as we possibly could, because in the morning we would all have to leave this wonderful place.
That experience helped me understand how much time I wasn’t spending with my family.

Hearing my Friends and Family!

My favorite sence is my hearing, because I want to be able to hear my friends and family talk to me. Another reason is I want to be able to hear my mom tell me she loves me and cares about me, any other sence she could not do that with like seeing yes I could read sign language but its not the same. That’s why it’s my favorite, I couldn’t live with out it.

Camping With My Dad!

My hero is my dad he is a leader and a trustworthy man. He is the boss what he says goes at home and at work, but that’ one reason he’s my hero here’s another. It was last year and my dad and I had just left for are famous camping trip that we do every year. At the campsite we put up our tent and sat out our chairs. I knew the fun had begun!

My dad had brought the boat so we could fish in the morning, and I brought are gloves so we could play baseball in the afternoon. The first night was not very relaxing on the cold, hard ground but today was a new day. The fish didn’t bite so me and my dad just rode around and stopped at a small island in middle of the lake. Where we played ball for a little bit.

It was the last day and my dad and I were packing and putting away things. Until my dad asked if I wanted to go one on more boat ride and like any other kid I said yes. But what I didn’t know was that the only reason we were going on a boat ride is that we had forgot my glove and my dad didn’t want to hurt my feelings so we went all the way back to the island where we played baseball. As I walk up the hill there it was my glove. At that time I didn’t even know it was gone until it was right there in front of me. I was so thankful to have a dad that cares about me that much that he would go back for a cheap glove to save my feelings, that’s why he’s my hero. Who is your hero?

MONSTER IN MY CLOSET!

“What’s that sound” I ask myself,
“Grrrrr” “there it is again” I say to myself,
That thing sounds angry,
I would look but I am a wimp,
Scared of a stupid sound in my closet.

I am stuck in this dark corner in this cold room,
With a scary monster in my closet,
I think for a minute about what I must do,
Then it hits me the light in the corner,

I run to the light then hit the switch and ran for the bed,
Now that I am safe I slowly make my way to the closet,
Twisted the door nob and out came MY CAT,
All that time scared of a CAT!
